NOSM University Faculty Awards of Excellence and Scholarship

Recognizing all faculty members’ contributions to education, research, clinical care, and administration in Northern Ontario, NOSM University acknowledges the faculty’s integral role in achieving the university’s mission of “innovative education and research for a healthier North.” The NOSM University strategic plan fosters excellent faculty relations while articulating how contributions to education, research, clinical care, and administration enrich faculty members’ careers as clinical and non-clinical academicians.

Encouraging NOSM University faculty to incorporate research, teaching, and other scholarly pursuits into daily activities and encourage research collaboration across programs and divisions promotes an environment that will enhance the quality of education, increase research output, increase grant funding, and align research initiatives with NOSM University’s mission and values.

To achieve this goal, the NOSM University Faculty Awards of Excellence and Scholarship annually rewards individuals with faculty appointments within the Clinical, Human, and Medical Sciences Divisions to recognize their unique contributions.

NOSM University Health Sciences Preceptor Awards

  4. Northern Ambassador – A preceptor who is recognized for being a strong ambassador for their community, and who creates a welcoming environment for learners of all disciplines.
  5. Academic Excellence – An individual who consistently participates in or contributes to scholarly activities, including research, mentorship, academic instruction or other related works.

NOSM University Alumni Awards

Each year, you and your fellow alumni demonstrate exemplary service and commitment to health care, medical education, and research in Northern Ontario and across the country. The Alumni Awards will recognize the achievements of some of our most accomplished graduates from all NOSM University programs.

We want to hear from you!

  • Why are you nominating this alumna/alumnus?
  • How has this person excelled and what demonstrates how this nominee is exceptional?
  • How do they stand out from their peers as mentors, colleagues, and collaborators?
  • What has the nominee achieved outside of their profession through their research, advocacy, volunteerism, or personal interests?
  • Are their contributions and achievements based on individual merit or personal commitment, rather than because of their position of employment?
  • How does the person nominated make you proud to be connected to NOSM University?
  • What personal qualities does the nominee exhibit that makes them an inspiration for students and other alumni?

Nominations can be made by alumni, faculty, learners, staff and community members in two award categories—Rising Star and Distinguished Alumni. An Honorary Alumni award will be awarded to an individual who has not graduated from NOSM University, yet lives the values of the organization. The recipient will be chosen based on recommendations by the Nominations Committee.
